Tianjin University, known as Tianjin University for short, was founded on October 2, 1895 as Beiyang University. It is the first modern university in China and the pioneer of modern higher education in China. After the failure of the Sino-Japanese War, the school was founded in Tianjin by Emperor Guangxu of Qing Dynasty, Zhu Bi, and was first supervised by Sheng Xuanhuai. Beiyang University Hall, the first-class school (undergraduate) and the second-class school (preparatory college), the first-class school has four disciplines: law, engineering, mining and machinery.
